Family Living 120 November 22,23,24th, 2010
Dear Family Living Class:
Thanks for being so patient with me this term. I know it is hard sometimes when your teacher is away, and even harder when it happens a lot. I still expect each and every one of you to keep trying your best, though, and to give the assignments some genuine thought. I’ve appreciated your honesty so far on assignments that might be tough to think about. The important thing is to remember we can learn from each and every experience we face.
That goes for me, too...I wish we were done Dalton’s treatments, but the reality is we have to keep travelling. And yes, I’ve learned a lot, too. One of our next units will be on stress, which I know most of you experience on a regular basis.
I am leaving the following checklist with you, and expect it to be completed by the time I see you again, on Thursday. You will have different supply teachers, and I have booked the portable computer lab from Mrs. McLaughlin’s room each day I am away. You can do them in any order you wish, as long as all get completed.
Please free to email me if you have questions, I will check in during the evenings. I have updated ENGRADE, for the new semester, and will enter LJ 7 soon. Hope you have it done and passed in to me already!!
CHECKLIST:
1. LJ #7: summary of three jobs you might be suited for, after you have completed THE FIRST TWO PARTS OF WHO AM I. (this was due last week...now you are REALLY late!)
2. Make sure you have all the notes from the Psychologists we had. (you should have a set of the blank power point notes, with each psychologist on it. KNOW Erikson’s Eight Stages, and Gardner’s 9 Multiple Intelligences...ask to see the teacher notes, if you don’t have them.
3. Complete the booklet The Sixth Messenger...if you don’t have your own copy, get one of the front desk. I am looking for these pages to be completed:
a. Values: page 82
b. Skills: page 84
c. Multiple Intelligences: page 86-91
d. Start Your own Business: page 95-96
4. Read page 102-104, of The Sixth Messenger, about Ben Wicks, by his son Vince. Reflect on your own life. LJ #8: WHO are the people, young or old, who can provide you personally with guidance and advice about your career decisions? (Of course, I am your obvious answer, because that’s my JOB...but who are the people in your own life who aren’t professional counsellors that can help you with careers, and who have been an influence already on you?) HOW can they help you, or HOW have they already helped you? Give specific examples. Perhaps they have been an important role model in your life already.
5. The HIGH FIVE: read page 4 and 5. List the High Five Career Messages in your notebook. Leave space after each to give personal examples off who can be helping you reach each one.
6. Reflections: page 66-71. What advice does Ben and his friends give? Give some personal feedback on lessons YOU may have learned through life, that will follow you as an adult (at least THREE!)
7. LAST part of our assignment!! LIFEPLANS, the blue textbook: Read chapter 7. At the end, answer questions 1-4 in your notebook.
See You Thursday!
Mrs. B
