Drinking & Driving Youtube

Jessie's YouTube assignment: Teen Drinking & Driving
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ixKUg9RqlJA
Some of our discussions included:
Some of our videos will be difficult to watch, due to the topic, and one's own personal life experiences. That is something to keep in mind ...TARGET AUDIENCES.
Who is the intended audience? What impact will videos such as these have on them? Are these educational videos too "in your face"; do teens need to see the real impact? Some organizations such as MADD and TADD want to grab your attention...and make you think. Did it work?
Many alcohol/beer companies are now supporting such groups, asking people to drink responsibly. Why is it in their best interest?

Friday!

Quiz today....Unit 1 part 2
MIDTERM Thursday, March 24...study BOTH quizzes!

Larissa's Video: Texting & Driving
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R0LCmStIw9E

Medium is the Message: we discussed obvious message of dangers of texting while driving, but we also talked about HOW the video was made, and impact of Mock Accidents and graphic images.
Target Audiences: teens with new drivers licences. Would this video have the same impact on older drivers? Middle School students? Why/why not?

All LJs should be in by now; Prezi assignment due NEXT FRIDAY.
Monday (supply teacher) will be the last class to work on assignment.
New Unit starts Tuesday; Film: TV and Movies

Fri/Mon storm days...Katie and Amelia's Youtube assignment

YouTube of the week

Katie's project:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=48CZDXbczMI&feature=fvst
Discussion: Message that tv can be useless, and take over our lives; people feel the "need" to watch their daily/weekly episodes.
An interesting note...HULU, the company that is being promoted by actor Alec Baldwin, is a real company owned by various TV networks, including NBC, ABC (Disney), that allows US viewers to watch their shows on their computers, combining the two forms of media.

Amelia's project:
http://www.familyguyepisodes.tv/
Amelia focused on a small portion of season 6episode 8
Discussion: appropriateness of tv for different viewing audiences.Producer and TV families using tv shows to promote health concerns/issues...persoanl "soap boxes". This episode looked at underfunding in stem cell research, and health risks created by fast food restaurants.
Also interesting to note this video was originally on YouTube, but taken off for Copyright Infringement; see today's notes!
